My son misspelled "receive" on a practice spelling test. With great pleasure, I grabbed the opportunity to teach him: "I before E except after C." Aaah, it was a sweet moment for this ol' editor mom, passing down a rule near and dear to my heart to the next generation.
The next word on his list: neighborhood. Moment. Gone.
